How To Increase Your Opt-In Rate

Opt-in RateHow do you increase your subscription list Opt-In rate? You’ve undoubtedly heard it said before that the key is in the list. Often times creating and maintaining a loyal subscriber list can mean the difference between internet marketing success and failure. The sad truth is that opt-in conversion rates are very low, so what can you do to improve your opt-in conversions without buying leads or paying for ads. Here are a few strategies that might help.

Opt-In Rate

The problem that many people have when they first venture into internet marketing is going straight for the sale. In affiliate marketing this happens when you write an article and then send your site visitor straight to the sales page. In network marketing people often try to lead with the pitch which is the best way to scare people away. If you get tons of traffic to your site then you make make a few sales along the way. You’ve heard the old saying that “even a blind squirrel gathers a few nuts”, but that’s not how to succeed online these days.

Rule of Seven

The Rule Of Seven revolves around the fact that most people need to hear something around seven times before they take action. In sales that means that the prospect will need to hear the presentation, or the advertisement , seven times before they make a purchase. That’s why the go straight for the sale approach doesn’t work too well and why creating a subscriber list is so important.

Opt-In Forms

Opt-in forms have become very popular and if you’ve spent any time online, you see them all over the place. Website owners make all sorts of offers to entice people to opt-in to the subscriber list. The said truth is though that opt-in rate from sign up forms runs around 1 to 2% That means that you may get 20 opt-ins for every 1000 visitors to your site. Again, you’ll need lots of traffic to build a respectable list.

You can increase opt-ins by placing your offer in a prominent location on your site. The top right hand corner is a popular location. Creating compelling ad copy is also critical, but we’re still talking about moving from a 1% to 2% opt-in rate

Pop-Up Ads

Pop-ups can improve conversion rates to about 5 to 10%, which means at most 100 opt-ins for every 1000 visitors. Some people find pop-ups annoying and they’ll end up increasing your sites bounce rate, but they will increase your opt-in rate. I haven’t found that pop-ups convert as well for me as the studies suggest.

Opt-In Funnel

The latest trend in improving opt-in rates is developing an opt-in funnel. You’re offer must provide solutions to peoples problems. We’ve all heard of sales funnels, well how about creating an opt-in funnel? By doing this the offer can be customized based on your site visitors specific needs. You can create a questionnaire that asks a few basic questions and then the opt-in comes at the tail end after your site visitor has answered the questions. You then ask for their name and email address in order for them to receive the answer. This concept works because you gain micro-commitments each time they make a response so then their compelled to opt-in because they have to find out the answer. The answer is customized based on how your site visitor responded. It’s very compelling and opt-in rates can skyrocket to as much as 45% when executed properly.

Opt-In Rate

I’ve seen a few sites utilizing the opt-in funnel approach and they are indeed very effective. Right now you have to be pretty tech savvy to create an opt-in funnel, but keep your eye out for some plug-and-play products to start hitting the market in the near future. The bottom line is in order to increase your opt-in conversion rate you’ll need to create an offer that is more compelling than what other website owners are doing. Make your site visitors an offer they can’t refuse.
