Network Marketing Success:

6 Mistakes to Avoid

Network Marketing SuccessWhen it come to network marking success here are 6 mistakes that I’ve observed. I have been involved in sales and marketing for almost 30 years, but am relatively new to network marketing. There are a few mistakes that I’ve seen through the years that are as common in network marketing as anywhere else. I know because I’ve made most of these mistakes myself and sometimes over and over again (ouch). So here is a list of 6 mistakes that many people make in network marketing and how to avoid them.

Network Marketing Success:

  1. It’s Really All About Making Money
  2. Walking Away From Information Overload
  3. Delaying Decision Making
  4. Is It “Easier” Or Just “Different”?
  5. People are More Important Than Information
  6. Keep It Simple

It’s Relly All About Making Money

If you’re just starting in network marketing, it’s okay not to be making any money. I’m still building my business and I need to be making more. There are lots of chores that we need to do to become successful, but if that chore is not directly related to making money, then it’s a back burner issue that you need to get done and move along. Spending too much time tweaking your website, over analysing your Google Analytics, listening to every webinar or searching for the latest, greatest plug-in won’t really make you money. Creating content, closing leads and working with your downline are money making activities that you should maximize to their fullest. I know I feel good about myself after I’ve completed an article or video and submitted it to all my favorite outlets. I don’t feel so well when I’ve spent hours with “anministrivia”.

Walking Away From Information Overload

When I went to college there were no personal computers. Can you believe that? Fortran and Cobal computer programming were the only computer courses offered at the undergraduate level. Today I love the internet, but man there is so much information that it can just suck you in. I kind of gave up watching TV, now I’m an internet junkie (ouch #2). Once you’ve stepped into the network marketing arena you get exposed to so much information that it can be overwhelming. You can reach the point of overload where you’re thinking too much and you have too much noise in your head. I think we all know that information overload exists, so when you start feeling overwhelmed, stop thinking and get back to work. Create content, close leads and work with your downline and you’ll feel better about yourself.

Delaying Decision Making

I don’t have trouble making a decision. Sometimes the decisions I make aren’t that good, but man I can make a decision in a snap. Have you ever been with a group of people and you’re trying to decide on where to go for dinner? It goes on forever. Someone says “I don’t care, where do you want to go?’ and somebody else says “I don’t care where do you want to go?” That drives me crazy. So in network marketing we are confronted wit loads of decisions, but delaying decision is worse than making the wrong decision. Most of the time you can fix bad decisions. It’s hard to fix indecision.

Is It “Easier” Or Just “Different”?

One great thing about network marketing is that it gives you the opportunity to become your own boss and create a better life for yourself by joining an organization and being able to plug into a system. You don’t have to recreate the wheel. This business will quickly weed out the performers from the non-performers. So it’s easy to get into this business, but don’t look for the easiest way to do things.

A colleague of mine recently completed a video tutorial of creating backlinks for Facebook. The video is about 30 minutes long and is very good. I watched it twice. I know it took him over 10 hours to produce the video, but the end result is fantastic. I noticed that this blog post of his received over 120 comments in just a few days as the response was overwhelming. My point is that he didn’t just create some content, he created a very useful tutorial with genuine value and it wasn’t easy for him.

So the bottom line is to not think easier, but instead think harder. Look for things that require a little more effort. We all can learn from my colleague as doing what’s difficult are the things we should do, because most people don’t do them. If we do enough of those things, we’ll start to develop a competitive advantage and I don’t know about you, but I’m into competitive advantages.

People are More Important Than Information

There are lots of training videos and online courses that are available and they all have their place. But in the end this is all just information. The people who are making it online are the ones that can network, develop relationships and connect with people who can help them launch their careers. Another great aspect of network marketing is that it’s based on duplication. Just find the people who have made the system work for them and who are available to give you a leg up. These are the people who have can put you in the pipeline for the right opportunities, and help you gain access to places that you and I don’t have access to.

Keep It Simple

Find a system that works for you and stick with it through thence and thin. Boil it all down to the simplest elements. Write down your goals and create a schedule. Leave time for everything else in your life and don’t ignore your family and then stick with the plan. I’m starting to use a kitchen timer to help me complete projects faster and more efficiently by giving myself a time limit to complete an article or conduct some research. I know I can get distracted pretty easily and by streamlining the process I can get a lot more done in a lot less time.

Network Marketing Success:

So network marketing success boils down to staying focused, making decisions quickly and easily, tackling the harder tasks, developing productive routines and building solid relationships that can open doors for us all. I’m not a very good golfer, but I do like the game. From time to time a shoot a birdie on a particular hole and I’ll tell my golfing buddies “this game is easy”. I think my odds at becoming a success in network marketing is a whole lot more attainable than becoming a professional golfer.
