If you are looking for ways to to increase your opt-in conversion rate, there are a number of strategies that work. We’ve all heard it said that “the money is in the list”, but getting people to sign up for your list is easier said than done. I have complied a list of 10 ways to increase your opt-in rate. (Click Here To Learn More)

  1. Use a pop-up feature - Pop-ups drive me crazy, but the studies show that they are effective. Lots of webmasters use pop-ups effectively and profit from them, so it’s hard to argue about their utility.
  2. Offer a value proposition – give people a reason to sign up for your list, whether it’s a free newsletter, free report, free e-book and so forth. It’s also important to test various options to see which offer works best for the type of visitors that your site attracts.
  3. Make the opt-in process quick and easy – Don’t ask for too much personal information. Recent studies now show that opt-ins are higher if you only ask for an e-mail address, not even a first name. We’er all concerned about our privacy.
  4. Let them know you’ll protect their privacy – No one wants their information sold to spammers.
Include a low-risk statement – Let people know that they can unsubscribe any time.
  5. Use scarcity as an incentive – Let people know that there are only so many copies or spaces available. I see this used a lot and think it’s a bunch of bull, so be careful using this if its not true.

The most important issue to consider is to test and even split-test various options. If one option isn’t working then try something else. Here are some ideas to test:

  • Test location of display on your webpage – Maybe a pop-up works best, or a footer slide, or a sidebar reminder is the most effective.
  • Alter graphic design of opt-in – Will text or images work better?
  • Change description of gift offer- Again maybe an image will be more effective.
  • Try a different gift incentive – If a newsletter doesn’t work try, an e-book offer. If an e-book offer isn’t effective, try a video or software to give away.
  • The gift must offer value to be effective.

I recently started testing my opt-in form and decided to that the statistics are too compelling to ignore the pop-up option. I was originally placing my opt-in form just under my header, but the results were only fair. I came across a product called Pop-up Domination by Michael Dunlop and decided to give it a try.  Various forums and websites indicated that Pop-up Domination is one of the best around, so I decided to buy it. It is essentially a “lightbox” style software that works on my WordPress site. It’s a stand alone feature that will work on other website platforms as well. Pop-up Domination includes 9 various themes with multiple color options, so you can test and split-test various formats to see which one works best for your site. I’m currently testing various options on the pop-up on my website, but I have seen a significant increase in the number of  opt-ins, but I’ll continue to test and retest to find what works best. Pop-up Domination can be purchased for a one-time $47.
