How To Use Link Wheels
Link Wheels are a relatively easy way to generate backlinks and improve your blogs page rank. There are many sophisticated techniques to accomplish these goals, but if you’re just starting out and wondering what you can do to supercharge your internet marketing efforts, this strategy is free and I guarantee you that it’s effective.
What Are Link Wheels?
Link wheels are a means by which you share your unique content, such as articles, video, power points, images and distribute them to high ranking blogs/web pages. The typical approach is to select web 2.0 properties such as Blogger, WordPress.com, Squidoo, Best Networker, Hubpages, but there are many others and you can sign up for all of these for free. What you do is add your content to each site and include a link to your main website or blog and another link to one of your other blogs to create a wheel.
What is a hyperlink?
When you create a link wheel you are placing your blog in the hub, so every site will have one link pointing to the post on your site and the other will point to a post you created on one of the other sites. To create a link, use html code that looks like this: <a href=”http:www.yourdomainname/your post title”>Your Keyword</a>. This will create a clickable link within your text. The easiest thing to do is to copy and paste the new URL from your browser after you’ve published it.
What About The Duplicate Content Penalty?
I know that sounds like a lot of work having to write unique content for each blog, but there are some short cuts you can take. First off, I don’t believe that Google issues a duplicate content penalty for material that you have created. What I believe happens is that you receive a unique content bonus when you create something original. So the easiest thing to do when you’re fist starting out is to submit a post to your blog and then turn around and submit the same post to all the other sites with your hyperlinks embedded. If you submit to Squidoo and Hubpages for instance, you’ll need unique content or they won’t approve it.
How To Easily Create Lots Of Content From One Unique Article
You absolutely need to determine what your topic is and then do some keyword research to pinpoint the phrase that gets searched for in the search engines whether your building link wheels or not. Then write an article using that keyword in the title. Once you have created one unique article, you can then spin it using spinner software such as The Best Spinner to create multiple unique articles. You can also use that article as a basis for a Power Point presentation that you can post on SlideShare.com and then turn it into a video using Jing, a free screen capture software package. You can submit that video to multiple video directories using Tube Mogul. So you see there are a ton of options here for writing one unique article and then re-purposing it any number of ways. In order to create the most effective link wheel to generate link juice the best approach is to create unique content in these ways.
Why Are Link Wheels Effective?
When you create a new WordPress blog your Alexa rank will be in the tens of millions. Alexa is a California based company that computes internet traffic rankings by analyzing their web usage. So when you place your blog as a hub surrounded by high ranking sites, then over time you can positively influence your ranking and you’ll find it easier to rank your posts higher in the search engines. In essence your using the power of the other established sites to propel your site to a higher Alexa rank as you’ll start seeing increasing number of visitors to your blog. I would recommend adding the Alexa toolbar to your site. It’s free and it shows you the rank of every site that you visit. Google has an alexa rank of 1 and Facebook is #2 and Squidoo is #200, which is excellent. Link wheels are effective because you are using the power of other sites to help your own site gain traction.
Final Thoughts On Link Wheels
Link Wheels were very popular several years ago and then they kind of fell out of favor, but from my experience they still are very effective and can really help your blog get noticed. There are many other techniques to help you gain page rank and improve your Alexa score, but many of them require expensive software or are incredibly time consuming. Your goal should be to write and publish one unique article a day, or just 5 a week and then create a link wheel for every post. You should add links back to your site to your video as well. The objective of creating a link wheel is to help you generate free traffic to your blog and to ultimately convert that traffic into customers and/or loyal followers.
